Snow Removal
Snow removal is the responsibility of the Street Department.  Over 100 miles of street are plowed during and after a snow event with five (5) plow trucks and two (2) crews working 12 hour shifts.

Emergency snow routes are cleared first, and keeping them open is top priority.  Primary and secondary streets are cleared as soon as possible.  Alleys are plowed after all other streets are clear and passable.

Emergency Snow Routes:
Clay Ave.
Church St.
College Ave.
S. Diamond St.
W. Lafayette Ave.
Sidewalks
The City of Jacksonville does have a Sidewalk Renewal Program. Every late Spring/Summer we have a crew of Street Department workers that go around and fix cracked and settling sidewalks. We diligently work to get through the list as long as City Funds allow every season.
If you wish to be added to this list, please contact the Municipal Services Department (Street Department) at 217-479-4653.
Street Openings
If you need to cut into the city street for utility repair, please contact the Municipal Services Department (Street Department) at 217-479-4653.
There is a charge of $5/sq.ft. and the contractor must backfill with floable fill 4in. from the top of the street. The Street Department will then come and patch the hole once the fee is paid.
**If any city sidewalks are damaged in the excavating process, the contractor is responsible for fixing them.
**Contractors are responsible for providing their own barricades.
**In the event of a city street closure to do the necessary work, please call the Non-Emergency Police Department at 217-479-4630.
Street Lights
If you wish to report a streetlight outage, please visit Ameren Illinois' website, or contact Ameren Illinois at (217) 755-5000.
Traffic Signals
If you wish to report a traffic light outage, please contact the Municipal Services Department (Street Department) at 217-479-4653.
Street Signs
If you wish to report a street sign down or missing, please contact the Municipal Services Department (Street Department) at 217-479-4653.
Fall Leaf Pick-Up
Every November the Street Department goes around and collects BAGGED leaves that are left on the curb by 8:00am. They make multiple trips throughout the week for the whole month.
**Bags can be paper or plastic.
**Please do not sit them on water valves or broadband boxes.
Christmas Tree Pick-Up
Christmas Tree Pick-Up happens the first week of January every year. The Street Department workers will make a few passes through Jacksonville that week.
