Complimentary Services
Abandoned Vehicle Removal
Abandoned and junk vehicles have been a major concern in Jacksonville neighborhoods for a long time, and were further identified as such in the City’s Comprehensive Plan. This free service represents the Mayor and City Council’s commitment to cleaner, safer neighborhoods.

Do you have any unwanted vehicles on your property? If so, the City of Jacksonville will pick them up for FREE.

An Abandoned Vehicle is:

  • Any vehicle that does not have current license plates.
  • Any vehicle that does not run under its own power and is in a state of disrepair.
If your vehicles meet any of these criteria, you could be in violation of City Ordinance Sec. 28-79.

Annual GFL Environmental City Wide Clean Up
A curbside Spring Cleanup Day has been scheduled for June 3-7, 2024.  Residents within the Jacksonville Corporate City Limits with GFL accounts in good standing will be able to participate. 

GFL employees will pick up on your regularly scheduled day of service and ask that your trash be put out by 6 a.m.

Brush Drop Off
The City of Jacksonville provides a free brush drop-off site for residents of the City. The drop-off site is located at 202 West Oak Street, behind the Morgan County Animal Shelter (at the north end of North Church Street).

The Brush Drop off is open everyday from dawn to dusk.

Brush, tree limbs, yard waste, grass or leaves are accepted.  Construction materials are NOT accepted.  Residents are asked to empty their bags at the brush drop off and then take the bags with them - please do not leave the bags at the drop-off site.

NOTE:  All commercial and non-residents will pay $3.00 per yard.

Christmas Tree Pick Up
The Municipal Services Department provides a Free Christmas Tree Pick Up to all residents of Jacksonville, typically during the first week in January. Pick up dates are advertised in the local media and on this website. Residents are asked to have their trees, free of decorations, curbside by 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the announced pick up.

The Brush Drop Off will also be open to the public during this time from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Infant Car Seat Checks
The City of Jacksonville Police Department provides infant car seat checks and assistance in installation free of charge to the public.  Please contact the Jacksonville Police Department at 217-479-4630 to arrange an appointment with a certified officer.
Leaf Pick Up

Leaf burning is prohibited in the city limits of Jacksonville.

Each fall, the City provides free leaf pick up for its residents. The Municipal Services Department picks up bagged leaves placed curbside by 8:00 a.m. on specified pick up days, usually in November.  Only bagged leaves will be picked up in either paper or plastic bags.  The leaf vacuum will no longer run on ditch streets.

Notary Public Service
The City of Jacksonville provides notary public service free of charge to the public.  The following City offices provide notary services:  Mayor's Office, City Clerk's Office, City Treasurer's Office, Community Development Department, and the Police Department.
Refuse, Recycling & Yard Waste Services
The City of Jacksonville recently contracted with GFL Environmental, Inc. to provide residential refuse, recycling and yard waste removal services to all Jacksonville residents.  PLEASE NOTE:  Trash pickup services are performed weekly.  Recycling pickup services are performed the 2nd and 4th week of the month and are done on the same day as your trash pickup.

Sidewalk Replacement

The City of Jacksonville participates with its residents in a sidewalk replacement program each year. The City will remove the old sidewalk and arrange for installation of the new sidewalk, with the homeowner paying only for the cost of the concrete.
